Proposals - Unit 3 & Research Festival
Unit 3 - Summer Exhibition

1. Finish first wood sculpture - Christian caught by Giant Despair. Not currently happy with the giant. Borrow Otto Dix images of a wounded man for the Giant's expression. Consider leaving the carving rough, per [Georg Baselitz] chain-sawed figures - although my sculpture isn't perhaps big enough for that.

2. Complete stealth aircraft picture. Make the aircraft even thinner. Translate the text on the plate. That should be the title of the work.
Re-paint the picture many times. I want many layers of oil paint on the canvas - I want a surface reminiscent of the glaze on the ceramic plate.
3. An animation - short, perhaps 30 seconds, based on the sketches below. The subtitle (unspoken) would be: "If you are feeling angry, blow someone up." The main event would happen within one of the large guns outside the Imperial War Museum. The day before, the protagonist passes some bright red and yellow trousers in a shop window, buys them and is pleased with his purchase. He then sees someone, on TV, in another city, wearing the same trousers. He is angry. In the sequence in the sketch below, he blows them up. The animation is in black and white, with the exception of the trousers. They are the only bit of colour throughout, until the explosion, which is also in red and yellow.

4. New wood confrontation sculpture with sketch downloaded into an image and then laser printed onto the wood. I have been given a large piece of seasoned wood from a fallen tree and have cut it into two bits, (see below) each intended to be the platform on which I will burn, by laser printing, an image of a black and white sketch for the piece. I will perhaps choose from one of the three sketches below and adjust them to fit the wood.

5. Visit to Ukraine - I would like to produce a series of paintings post that visit but have not yet decided what they will look like.
6. Satirical ceramic (or now, perhaps, wood - see Online Journal) torso with a series of woollen hats (made by a knitting collaborator to my patterns) with a request that members of the public choose which hat to put on the head of the figure. This would be the first work I have produced involving some form of spectator participation.

Research Festival Proposals
1. An animation booklet - If I don't manage to make the animation itself for Unit 3 I intend to produce a booklet of sketches which will show the animation in shortened format.
2. Research from Ukraine visit - that visit (I arrived back yesterday) is very recent so I have not yet formulated my ideas for what to do (in terms of producing art work) based on the trip. But I do want to consider carefully the extent to which public engagement should become a part of my art.
